A streamlined Coronation-class engine. Steam locomotives were streamlined in order to counter wind-resistance and so to improve efficiency. Not all the class were modified in this way and eventually (after World War Two?) the streamline casing was removed. The Coronation class were designed to haul the heaviest West Coast Main Line express-passenger trains.
